About Compress image to 200 KB
200 KB fits a sharp web-sized photo or a readable document scan, which is why it is a popular upload limit for forms and marketplaces.
The compressor above is already in Target file size mode at 200 KB. It binary-searches JPEG/WebP quality to land just under the limit and, if even low quality is too big, scales the image down step by step. It aims under 200,000 bytes so it passes forms that count 1 KB as either 1,000 or 1,024 bytes.
If the target cannot be reached (for example with PNG, which has no quality setting), the tool says so and shows the smallest result instead of pretending.
Rule of thumb: photo dimensions that usually fit in 200 KB
| JPEG quality | ≈ Pixels | ≈ Size at 4:3 |
|---|---|---|
| High (≈90%) | 0.57 MP | 870 × 650 px |
| Medium (≈75%) | 1.1 MP | 1220 × 910 px |
| Low (≈50%) | 2.0 MP | 1630 × 1220 px |
Estimates for a typical photo. Detailed scenes (foliage, noise) need fewer pixels; flat graphics and documents fit more. The tool measures real file sizes, so trust its result over this table.
How to do it
- 1
Drop one or more images (JPG, PNG, or WebP).
- 2
Keep Target file size at 200 KB, or type a different limit. JPG reaches small targets most easily.
- 3
Check the preview and the result line, then download (several files come as a ZIP).
