About AAC to MP3
Raw .aac files from recorders or streams can confuse older software. MP3 opens everywhere.
AAC is decoded and re-encoded as MP3. For Apple devices you could keep AAC by converting to M4A instead.
The FFmpeg engine (about 31 MB) downloads the first time you convert and is then cached by your browser. Files up to about 100 MB are supported because everything runs in browser memory.
AAC vs MP3
| AAC | MP3 | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Raw AAC (ADTS) audio | Lossy audio |
| Typical codecs | AAC | MPEG-1 Layer III |
| Common use | Streams, some recorders and phones | Universal music and podcast format |
