About this tool

Find out in seconds whether your microphone works. Omnipus shows a live input level in dBFS, the peak level, a waveform, the sample rate, channel count, and whether echo cancellation and noise suppression are on. Switch microphones and optionally hear yourself through headphones. Audio is analysed live with the Web Audio API and is never recorded, saved, or sent.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my voice recorded?

No. The audio is analysed in memory for the meter and waveform and is never stored or uploaded.

What does dBFS mean?

Decibels relative to the browser’s full scale. 0 dBFS is the loudest possible signal; normal speech is often between −40 and −15. It is not a calibrated sound level (dB SPL) reading.

The meter doesn’t move.

Check that the right microphone is selected, that it is not muted in your OS, and that no other app has exclusive access to it.

Is Mic test completely free to use?

Yes. Mic test on Omnipus is free to use with no subscription paywall for the tool itself.

Are my files or data uploaded to any servers?

No. Mic test processes your input locally in this browser tab. Your files and text are not sent to Omnipus. Some tools download an engine or model file the first time you use them; that is a download, not an upload.

Does Omnipus add watermarks to exported files?

No. Omnipus does not stamp a site watermark onto files you export from Mic test.

Can I use Mic test on my mobile phone?

Yes. Omnipus has touch-friendly controls and can be installed as an app. On Android you can also share files or links into tools from other apps.
