About this tool

A browser video converter built on FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Open MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, or MP4 and convert to MP4 (H.264 + AAC), WebM, an animated GIF, or extract the audio as MP3, WAV, or M4A. When the source video is already H.264 it is copied without re-encoding, which is fast and lossless; other codecs such as HEVC (iPhone), VP9, or ProRes are re-encoded on your device, which can be slow on phones. The FFmpeg core (~31 MB) downloads once and is cached. Files up to about 100 MB.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a file size limit?

About 100 MB and roughly 45 minutes, because everything runs in browser memory. Larger files are refused rather than crashing the tab.

Why is converting some videos slow?

If the video is not H.264 (for example HEVC from an iPhone), it has to be re-encoded with a single-threaded WebAssembly encoder. Desktop computers are much faster than phones.

Will quality drop?

Copying H.264 into MP4 keeps quality exactly. Re-encoding uses a good-quality setting (CRF 23) but is still lossy.

Are my videos uploaded?

No. FFmpeg runs in this tab; only the encoder files are downloaded.

Is Video converter completely free to use?

Yes. Video converter on Omnipus is free to use with no subscription paywall for the tool itself.

Are my files or data uploaded to any servers?

No. Video converter processes your input locally in this browser tab. Your files and text are not sent to Omnipus. Some tools download an engine or model file the first time you use them; that is a download, not an upload.

Does Omnipus add watermarks to exported files?

No. Omnipus does not stamp a site watermark onto files you export from Video converter.

Can I use Video converter on my mobile phone?

Yes. Omnipus has touch-friendly controls and can be installed as an app. On Android you can also share files or links into tools from other apps.
